Team Saxo Bank II have celebrated just their third result of the season. Despite this result, as it was in a classic fifth counts as a result.
Stefan Zak attacked early on in Entrecasteaux GP and with a group of nine riders kept the gap open over the main field. On the final climb of the day Zak dropped the rest of the break away and made a bid for glory. Meanwhile in the bunch, the peleton had diminished to just seventeen riders with the pace set by Saxo Bank 77.
Ploegger then had a mechanical problem which seemed to put him out of the running, but a brilliant chase back on the descent saw him catch up.
On the run in to the finish, Zak was eventually caught by the leading pack and dropped immediately. In the sprint finish, Ploegger did not have the legs of his rivals only managing fifth which was a decent result considering his age.
Zak rolled in five minutes later in nineteenth while the rest of the team rolled in with the autobus some fifteen minutes down.
Although we have had 7 top ten finishes already this season following this result, we would love to get a few more podiums before this season is up.
In other news both Engen and Nogueira have recovered from injuries and following a lengthy race break the team will be ready to fight for a few wins.
